Recently I had dinner with my friend Jordi, who used to be my sidekick in my comedy show when it was more of a cabaret show. He said he’d love to see our old promo video from 2005. Tonight I was able to dig it up.
The story (as it’s explained in Spanish in the video description on YouTube): when I arrived in Spain, I couldn’t speak the language well, so I had to do shows based more on music than on monologues. That’s where Jordi was a great help. He played the drums while I played the piano, and helped fill in those awkward silences with nice, percussive flourishes.
More than that, he provided moral support and onstage companionship, making the difficult transition from one culture and language to another much easier for me. Jordi was a great stage partner as well as a wonderful friend, which he continues to be to this day.
(OJO: el show ya no es cada jueves, es el primer jueves del mes. Y desde entonces, Jordi ha encontrado mejores trabajos que le pagan más $.)
P.D. One of those who appear in the final still images is José María Ponce, the “Godfather of Spanish adult films”, whom I interviewed one night in the show. Now that’s a video I need to look for.
