I have just discovered something that has made it difficult to concentrate on my work, family, and friendships. And that thing, Ladies and Gentlemen, is a New York public access TeeVee show from the early ’80s called STAIRWAY TO STARDOM.

I am powerless to stop clicking on every episode that shows up in the side column on YouTube. As one commenter remarked, “It’s more like Stairway to being made fun of years later on YouTube.”

A fascinating artifact from a so-called “luxury” apartment we were staying in this week. An apartment where the internet didn’t work and the door to the balcony (and the only sense of ventilation) was nailed shut from outside, forbidding any kind of ventilation.

All right, it’s not exactly a rapist… but “Rapist Painting” has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? You’ve got to admit: it’s a good name for a band. Or an album or a single.

Love the guy’s hand disappearing into his pants as he ogles the big-butted blonde chick, leaving us all to wonder:

Is she a prostitute?

Is she a respectable woman?

Or does she inhabit the nether-world in-between, and work for Endesa?

Of course, if we’re the guy in the painting, the answer is: What’s the difference?

The burning question for me is: exactly how does a painting end up in a so-called apartamento de alto-standing in Madrid? What kind of person would think that this painting would be a nice addition to the decorative scheme? Did they think it would add a romantic touch to the place? Maybe young, upscale couples would see it and suddenly get in the mood?

Primero, quiero pedir disculpas a todos los que han dejado comentarios en este blog que no han sido aprobados hasta ahora. Este Word Press es una cosa rara; a veces me avisa cuando llegan y a veces no. En este caso, ha pasado de avisarme completamente… probablemente en espíritu de venganza, por mi comportamiento tan pasota respecto a este blog.

La verdad es que he estado metida en mil movidas este último mes, y debido a mi personalidad obsesiva que no sabe hacer nada con moderación, las cosas me salen “todo o nada”. En este caso, se ha traducido a un descuido enorme respecto a email e informática. Y con los años, esta tendencia mía va a peor.

Supongo que hay una pastilla que me curaría de ese defecto, pero los farmaceúticos te joden la creatividad. Y tengo mis mejores ideas cuando estoy corriendo desnuda por el Caprabo(TM) de mi barrio.

Tengo varias cosas para enseñaros, empezando por unas fotos que saqué en una tienda por la Ronda San Antoni. Un par de artefactos de nuestra edad de consumición compulsiva, hasta las personalidades más legendarias de la cultura pop.

Pero primero, un breve historial: cuando tenía 12 años, el profesor de historia nos dio la tarea de preparar una tesis sobre alguien histórico. Después de mucha discusión con él — una batalla que acabé ganando simplemente por agobiarle, no por convencerle —  me permitió escribir sobre Marilyn Monroe.

Pero desde entonces, la pobre Marilyn ha sido quemada para mí hace ya muchos años. No fue culpa suya, porque en mi opinión, sigue siendo uno de los personajes más fascinantes y encantadores de este siglo (y pico).

Todo empezó con ese retrato de Warhol, en su época algo curioso y revolucionario. Quién hubiera imaginado que los retratos de Warhol se convertirían en el agobio de decoración de hogar modernita y low-cost durante el siglo que venía?

Aquí tenemos una clase de “wall art” para la casa:

Aprecio especialmente el detalle de imprimir su nombre debajo de cada retrato. Por si cupiese la duda de cómo se llama ese rostro. Por si el comprador es alguien que ha vivido en una cueva durante toda la vida.

Vi un cartel que hizo lo mismo con el pobre James Dean. Su famosa foto, en chaqueta de biker, estampado en carteles, biombos, papeleras…

Pero el golpe más bestia fue lo siguiente, de nuevo a Marilyn:

Si Marilyn y James Dean hubiesen sabido que sus rostros acabarían, 50 años después de sus muertes, ornamentando papeleras y recoge-escombros, se habrían suicidado mucho antes.

Nunca he ido a Japón, pero videos como éste no disminuyen mi fascinación… ni tampoco los esterotipos sobre los japoneses.

De dónde viene tanta alegría y positividad? Sólo sería justificado si el niño tuviese un hábito de cagarse en los pantalones o en la moqueta. Pero ver a los padres tan, taaaaan entusiasmados? Qué pastillas están tomando? Porque me vendrían muy bien en estos días.

Mi parte favorita de este adorable video viene a las 1:36. Porque me recuerda a mi misma, cuando intento nadar en el mar.

Por cierto, descubrí este video porque, en un ataque de aburrimiento, Googleé poop. Esto es el nivel de que estamos hablando, damas y caballeros.

Pero fue un alivio ver que no soy la única. El comentario más popular sobre video era éste: “Thumbs up if you just typed in POOP.”

Me consuelo en que no sólo yo, si no toda la civilización, va hacia abajo. Have a nice day!
