Saw this display in the train station in Madrid. The popular Spanish candy “Conguitos” celebrates 50 years of sweet and crunchy goodness. I’m happy for the Conguitos product and all of its fans. But I’m even happier for the little Conguitos Neeegro, who finally, at long last, has gotten a full makeover. The balloonlike coon-lips frozen [...] A fascinating artifact from a so-called “luxury” apartment we were staying in this week. An apartment where the internet didn’t work and the door to the balcony (and the only sense of ventilation) was nailed shut from outside, forbidding any kind of ventilation. All right, it’s not exactly a rapist… but “Rapist Painting” has a nice [...] I took this pic in Madrid. The sign says, “FREE bottle of Spanish wine and bottle of olive oil for every purchase over 10 euros (while supplies last).” Well, that’s one way to get through the economic crisis. Just splurge on a loaf of bread for 99 cents, and you’ve got a complete meal. ¡Bon apetit! September 10, 2010: memorial for young 9-11 firefighter . Today on the news, President Obama said that 9-11 shouldn’t be turned into an opportunity to spread hatred and division. I couldn’t agree more. It’s much better to use our nation’s tragedy as an excuse to start devastating and unnecessary wars that leave thousands dead on all sides, [...]  So here we see this man on the street, drumming up some mad beats on an improvised drum kit made of empty paint buckets, an overturned cart and a metal pot. His girlfriend sits glumly nearby, clearly unable to accept her crummy fate of having a musician for a boyfriend… and on top of that, [...]  This was the first time I’d ever seen this band… or “these bands”, as it was like three shows rolled into one. Great songs, incredibly versatile musicians, real personalities — and Hank III is the real deal. A true star, like his grampa. This video is from the transitional phase from the country show into the [...]  I love it when I’m walking down the street on the way to do some boring errand, and then I happen upon something like this.
